Unique Tile Analyzer
A downloadable tool for Windows
Are there more unique tiles than you expected in your tileset or tilemap? Ever spent hours combing over a tilemap to find that one stray pixel? Use this utility to quickly analyze tile usage in your images.
Unique Tile Analyzer scans an input image and finds all of the unique tiles in that image. Then you use the simple and intuitive GUI to quickly visualize which tiles are reused and where.
This utility was designed with GB Studio in mind but may be useful for nearly any retro 2D project which can import or export tilesets/tilemaps as image files.
Features
- Hover the cursor over any tile to see a preview of that tile and all of the places where that tile is used.
- Color coding helps you immediately understand where tiles are re-used (or not)
- Adjustable zoom level (1/4, 1/2, 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x).
- Adjustable color overlay with three different Highlight modes
- Easily find tiles that are only used once in the "One-of-a-Kind" Highlight mode.
- Statistics show you the resolution of the image, the total number of tiles, the number of unique tiles, and the number of one-of-a-kind (non-reused) tiles.
- Adjustable tile size (anywhere from 4x4 to 256x256).
Some development environments, such as GB Studio, can automatically find all of the unique tiles in an image and generate a tileset using only those unique tiles. But if your tileset has too many unique tiles, it can be extremely difficult to figure out why. Unique Tile Analyzer is here to help.
